Fifty Shades of Grey seems to be the catalyst for the entire BDSM craze that seems to be going on at the moment. It has spawned a whole movement, including Fan site's, multiple specials by both Oprah's Our America, and E! TV, and even an upcoming movie.
Beginning as Twilight fan fiction under the name Masters of the Universe, 50 Shades was self published as an ebook, then split into the Shades of Grey Trilogy: 50 Shades of Grey, 50 Shades Darker, and Fifty Shades of Freed.
In the book, Anastasia Steele, a 21 year old college senior and Christian Grey, a 27 year old billionaire businessman begin a relationship. The book features explicit erotically charged scenes of BDSM, which seems to be striking a cord with it's target demographic of married women over thirty, and has often been labeled as 'Mommy Porn'.
While it has often been critically snubbed, the book has topped the best seller lists around the word. It even surpassed Harry Potter as the fastest selling paperback of all time.logged in to post comments
